philippine blog awards

The Putanginamo!com has been disqualified from the Philippine Blog Awards. At least I think so, there was no official communication from the board. Before someone says that I’m bitter, I have no problem being disqualified. 1) I already called it, 2) I didn’t expect anything and 3) As I’ve said many times, I’m no under illusion that this should be accepted in the “alternative mainstream media”. It’s a big piece of shit but sometimes you have to look at that shit and admire it before you flush it down the toilet.

This post isn’t about getting disqualified, it’s about some finalists showing up even without being nominated.

Here are the finalists in the Podcast category:

* Cuying Podcast (Good show but hasn’t even podcasted since 10/05, wtf)
* Happy Slip (she will probably win and should)
* The Liberal Times Manila Podcast (no comment)
* Noypi.com (I recall they only had a few shows. They don’t even have their shows on their site anymore, it’s a digg clone now)
* OhMyGulay (Hope they win)

How did Happy Slip, Liberal Times, Noypi and Cuying get to be finalists? Did the organizers add them because of the lack of Pinoy podcasts? I did not see them on the list when the nominations closed on Sunday, 4 March 2007. The nominees page/list is different compared to what numerous bloggers posted here, here, here and here.

They list list the Podcast nominees as:

* Putanginamo.com
* Inside PCIJ
* Viloria.com Pinoy Podcast
* OhMyGulay.com

I feel that this discrepancy should be addressed to avoid “luto” talks. It’s unfair to OhMyGulay and maybe others. Besides the podcast category, are there more discrepancies? Can someone explain? Abe? Jayvee? Gail? Did I miss the fine print? Can Chica still go?

If the board chooses finalists, why wasn’t the Sini-Gang a finalist? They have nearly 100 episodes. Blather and Bosh?What happened to Manuel Viloria? If Cuying is a finalist, so should the Basang Sisiw Show. Go OhMyGulay!

Yes, it seems like Pinoy podcasting is fading this year. I actually blogged about it last month (http://www.yugatech.com/blog/?p=1697) and even suggested that the PBA07 drop that category altogether if there aren’t enough nominations. Again, I would blame our lack of manpower for not updating the final list of nominees on the exact date that it was closed. It wasn’t an automated list, so we have to manually get them from the database, pre-screen them for exact categories before putting them up on the site.

We expected this and we are sorry if the final results did not 100% fit your fave list. There are so many categories that didn’t 100% fit my favorites too but hundreds of other bloggers would also say the same in their own respective categories.

Hi O,

The nomination was extended to early March, and the list of nominees (Podcasting category) is posted here.

Sini-gang was not in the list of nominees. Sayang… should’ve nominated them.

Anyway, I hope OhMyGulay.com wins! :-)

[O, people might mistakenly think I'm affiliated with OMG, because my full name above hyperlinks to them...]

@Abe, thanks for explaining.I look forward to a bigger and better awards show next year.

@Manuel, the link has been fixed. Yeah, it’s our ultimately our fault that SiniGang wasn’t nominated.

They picked an ancient podcast site over yours? I had this impression that the entries being judged are the ones between april 2006 up to the present.

That’s just weird. weird weird weird.

Hey Benj, I’m an avid reader of your blog. I’m also the big “A”. Yeah, it’s weird but the name of this site isn’t very friendly.

Really, Mr.O? Wow, thanks. I’ve been lurking for quite some time here as well - well, everyone is. Oh well, it’s the establishment and the cyber-proletariat have no choice but to follow… unless they choose to fight the evil empire.
