The top American story is about a talk show host saying “Nappy Headed Hoe”. That’s right, we are focused on words rather than real stories like the war. I thought free speech was important to Americans.
Talk show host, Don Imus was fired today due to pressure from special interest groups.
Here’s the deal. If you don’t like what Imus said, don’t listen/watch, but defend his right to say it. It was not to incite a riot, it was done in the context of comedy. Imus using “black” language was done in jest. It’s like the old white lady rapping the Sugar Hill Gang song in the Wedding Singer movie and recently Karl Rove rapping.
What we have here is white guilt and black hypocrisy.
White guilt - White people feel that they need to be over reactive to race “situations” due to benefits they still receive from the past atrocities.
Black hypocrisy
Where’s the same outrage for rappers who talk about hoes, drugs, shooting & murder? People are picketing, threatening and screaming for the head of Don Imus. When the black community “confronts” their own (rappers), it’s treated differently. They have a “dialog” or a “hip hop summit” where nothing gets accomplished. What about Dave Chappelle or Chris Rock? Why songs to you think are on the Rutgers womens basketball team’s iPods?
Don’t be mistaken, I have no problem with rap lyrics or race humor(I like it a lot). My problem is the double standard. Rappers should be defending Imus because he was imitating them. They are next on the chopping block. Look for white people will put black people under a microscope where they will be called out when anything racial is said. Hip Hop to black comedy will be examined for racial content. If you want a double standard, admit it and be honest. Don Imus is weak and old, they(Sharpton & Jackson) avoid young and strong rappers.
On a side note, I was a store where a black customer was talking about the issue with 2 white workers. While discussing it, they were laughing even though they all agreed it was despicable. They were laughing because the comment was so outrageous and obviously out of character for an old white man.

After reading an article on Atheista.net about the transcript of the prayer read during the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards invocation, I was inspired to do something. I thought about writing a long post about the Atheist and their role in society but 1) I’m lazy and 2) There are people out there who can do it much better than I could.
Why do I support Pinoy Atheists? Because not long ago, our ancestors were murdered for not being Christian. Today, Atheists are shunned from society as if they were gay monsters. I suspect there are a lot more Pinoy Atheists out there but are scared to come “out of the closet” for fear of loosing jobs & loved ones.
I know I’m not a great role model for Atheists but what can I do to help the Pinoy Atheist/Agnostic community? I own the domain PinoyAtheist.com. Any ideas?
Usually, I can’t stand personal blogs that talk about their life but laurganism is one that I do check out. Maybe she will be featured on our Talk Show?
Here are some highlights of this gem of a post:
I cannot stand Philippine society. I cannot stand how strong class discrimination is and the fact that norms that operate within those classes exist and will continue to exist. I hate that everyone I know knows everyone else, and there are always people watching you, waiting for you to fumble, fall, make a complete ass out of yourself, or do something scandalous. I hate that if I commit a serious crime, I’m probably going to get away with it because my friends know people or my family members know people who can wipe my slate clean.
This thing sends me a private message asking how can they watch a video.

We Pinoys just love having sex. Maybe we should dump thousands of condoms over the squatter areas to help prevent unwanted births? The combination of “macho” men, air headed women, and poverty is dangerous. The Philippine population is estimated to hit 88+ million this year.

On a related note, the average life expectancy of a Pinoy is now 70 years old.
