Filipino heavyweight UFC contender, Brandon Vere drops a 3 round decision to Tim Silvia. Does this mean he will drop to light-weight? It looks like Brandon broke his hand.
I woke up this morning to another slew of emails expressing the violent rage of Filipinos (especially Fil-Ams) about the Desperate Housewives Philippines remark.
I noticed that most of the outrage are coming from Fil-Ams and rational though coming from Filipinos living in the Philippines. After reading hundreds of reactions, I find it strange that mostly Fil-Ams are complaining about the remark made. Why? Because they left the Philippines for a better life. They knew there were problems in the Philippines, that’s why they got the hell out. Perception is reality for many. When the average American thinks of the Philippines, they think of poverty, Imelda Marcos, typhoons, terrorism and coup d’états. They do not know about the booming urban life. They do not know how great Greenbelt, Eastwood or The Fort is. We cannot expect them to know just like the average Filipino isn’t expected to know about the fine details about the US. Poverty = corruption & poor education.
In the latest Philippine News paper, there’s a photo of a bunch of Fil-Ams protesting at the Disney Store. Disney is the parent company of ABC Studios. What I found amusing was along with the protest photo, you will notice the following headlines: “U.S. names 3 Abu Sayyaf financiers in Saudi Arabia”, “3 Filipinos in $80-M loan scam”, “Klutzo the clown arrested for child porn”, “Case bankrupts lawyer for Sentosa 27″ and “Officials receive cash from Palace”.
Out of 6 front page stories (not including the Disney story), 5 are negative. 2 of the stories play on the world perception of our country. While I understand that negative headlines sell, terrorism and corruption are much bigger issues that we need to fight.
Again, I’m all for the right to protest and all but don’t forget about the real/root issues. Who says entertainment has to be nice anyway? If you can sue a network for making a remark of what many perceive, then why not sue the news stations for showing the “bad news” of the Philippines that shapes the minds of the American public. I’m sick of all this politically correct crap. You cannot do anything without offending someone or something. Don’t talk shit about whales since they have feelings too. For another interesting/good view, check this out.
I checked out this new service called SpeedDate and noticed their promo video is Pinoy. Just hearing them talk makes me cringe. Besides the video, the service looks interesting. Try it out and hopefully you won’t find yourself under some dirt.

I went to the bank today to find out that they were closed to “Observe Christopher Columbus Day”. I ask why? The man was a self confessed slave trader. While we Filipinos cry and shit in our own hats over a dumb comment by a fictional whore, where do we stand on this issue? I did a search of Pinoy blogs and could not find much. Anyone who celebrates this “holiday” is immoral, whatever that means.
Looks like the Daily Show got it wrong when labeling Cory Aquino a “SLUT”. Duh, isn’t it Kris????
If the racial slur made in a scene in ABC TV’s ”Desperate Housewives” against Philippine medical schools had outraged the nation, Filipinos here and abroad could be in for more.
This time, it may be the turn of the Emmy-award winning American satirical television program “The Daily Show” to spark controversy for apparently making a bad joke on former President Corazon Aquino.
1st of all GMA, the Desperate Housewives issue wasn’t a racial slur. A racial slur is nigger, honky, hook nose Jew, Pollack…..dumb fucks.

“Can I just check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are not from some med school in the Philippines” said Susan (Teri Hatcher) on the September 30 episode of ABC’s Desperate Housewives.
I revived about a dozen emails from relatives, spam and a real gem from NaFFAA.
The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) is demanding an apology from the producers of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” over an episode that aired on September 30 disparaging medical practitioners who were trained in the Philippines.
In condemning the racially-biased and culturally insensitive remarks, NaFFAA National Chair Alma Kern also points out the need for cultural awareness training among Hollywood writers, producers and actors. “It is outrageous that in this day and age, popular media continue to demean and insult Filipinos in America,” Kern says. “For more than one hundred years, we have made valuable contributions to this country, not only as health professionals but as child care providers and home care givers. These dedicated, diligent and competent workers do not deserve to be slandered and stereotyped in such a prejudicial manner if only to evoke laughter.”
Who cares? Some show with lots of fine ass MILFS say something bad about your country and you get pissed and want to protest? What about protesting the lame show? The show is about bored fine housewives that fuck a lot and we get mad about a disparaging dumb line about how a TV whore distrusts Filipino doctors? It’s not like the president said it. What do you expect? We can LOL at the Arabs but when the chickens come home to roost, it’s a different ball game. Hit too close to home?
I’m not pissed because I know the context. If you don’t like what was said, fine, but protect their right to say it. Plus, Teri Hatcher is fine.
Petitions don’t work. Boycotts don’t work. Focus your hypocritical anger elsewhere.
