A new anti-terror law recently took effect in the Philippines. Left-wing lawmakers want to overthrow it calling it a “recipe for authoritarian rule.” It endangers our civil liberties won during the ousting of Marcos in 1986. The new law defines terrorism as any of at least 12 violent crimes — including murder, kidnapping, arson, piracy and rebellion — that cause widespread and extraordinary panic and force the government to give in to an unlawful demand.
